How The Store X Berlin Runs Targeted Stocktakes After Stocky
A Berlin concept store needed to replace Stocky for stocktakes, with counts built around supplier groups and its UK sister business kept separate. Its team now runs both in Channel Bay.

“We use Channel Bay for stocktakes, which is super helpful given Shopify does not have a good solution for this. The support team is responsive and very easy to work with. So far the app has been great!”

The Issue
The Store X describes itself as a platform for ideas and culture, spanning fashion, art and design, with spaces at 180 The Strand in London, Soho House Berlin and Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire. The stores sell in person through Shopify POS, with no online store.
The Store X Berlin and The Store X UK are separate companies, but the same team runs both. They used Stocky for stocktakes, purchase orders, reorder planning and basic reporting. When Shopify announced it was retiring Stocky, they needed a replacement, and stocktakes were the part they couldn't do without.
What Wasn't Working
In the team's view, Shopify has no good stocktake solution of its own. Losing Stocky meant losing the way the stores counted stock.
Those counts are targeted. Store teams count one group of suppliers per session, such as all the jewellery brands. A replacement that could only count the whole inventory at once would have meant counting the whole shop every time.
The two businesses added a second requirement. Berlin and the UK are separate companies, so their stock had to stay completely separate, even though the same people manage both.

Why They Chose Channel Bay
Stocktakes were the deciding factor. Purchasing could stay simple: with one supplier per product, the team thought Shopify's own purchase orders might be enough, and they moved only their stocktakes.
On the first call, the basics were in place. Staff can count by scanning barcodes or by entering numbers by hand, and adjustments with reasons work across locations. What the team asked for was count lists built by supplier, so a session could cover one supplier group. Channel Bay was already adding collection and product type filters to stocktakes and added vendor alongside them.
The team also needed Berlin and the UK set up as two independent Channel Bay accounts rather than one account with two locations, and Channel Bay helped them separate the two.
How They Work Now
Berlin and the UK each run their own Channel Bay account, with stock kept fully separate, and the same team works in both.
In Channel Bay, a stocktake count list can be built by vendor, type, collection, tag or SKU, so a session can cover a single supplier group. Before a count is submitted, the team can review expected, counted and variance for each line, with notes kept on the published stocktake. On submit, Channel Bay applies the difference to Shopify.
The Results
Both businesses moved their stocktakes off Stocky and onto Channel Bay, as two separate accounts run by one team, with counts that can be scoped to a single supplier group.
In their own review, the team calls Channel Bay super helpful for stocktakes and its support responsive and easy to work with.
