Oldest cost first (FIFO)
Stock you bought first is treated as the stock you sell first. A good fit for most shops, and for anything that can expire or date.
Every delivery keeps its own cost, and every sale uses the right one. See what your stock is worth and what each sale really cost you.
You paid $10 a unit last month, $12 this month and $15 on the order that just landed. When a unit sells, its cost depends on which delivery it came from. Most stores can't answer that, so their cost of goods and stock value are a guess.
Channel Bay records how many units each delivery brought in and what each one cost. When you sell, it takes the cost from the right delivery, using the rule you choose.
| Delivery | Units | Cost per unit | Sold from it |
|---|---|---|---|
| March | 100 | $10.00 | 1000 |
| April | 50 | $12.00 | 2040 |
| May | 80 | $15.00 | 080 |
FIFO sells all 100 March units, then 20 from April. LIFO sells all 80 May units, then 40 from April. Both add up to the $2,800 you paid.
Stock you bought first is treated as the stock you sell first. A good fit for most shops, and for anything that can expire or date.
Stock you bought most recently is treated as the stock you sell first. A good fit when you want costs to follow today's prices.
Change your rule any time. Costs already recorded stay as they are, and the new rule applies to future sales. One rule covers every connected store.
Each sale draws its cost from the right delivery, so cost of goods reflects what you actually paid.
Open any product to see units held at each location and what they're worth in total.
Every delivery, units in, units left and cost, plus which delivery is next and which one each sale used.
Costs are tracked per location. Move stock to another location and its cost moves with it.
A returned item goes back at the cost it sold at, not at today's price.
Buy in a supplier's currency and costs convert to yours at the rate for the day the PO was opened.
Stock changes Channel Bay can't explain are flagged for review, never guessed. Add a short note and the record stays clean.
Switch Cost Tracking off and on any time. Your history stays, and you confirm what changed in between.
Download any product's cost history as a spreadsheet for finance or month-end.
Purchase orders work out what each unit cost when it landed, with freight, discounts and currency spread across the lines. Cost tracking keeps those costs delivery by delivery and decides which one each sale uses.
Supplier prices change, so you never know your real margin. See what each sale truly cost and spot products quietly losing money.
Prove what stock is worth and explain differences when finance asks, with a delivery-by-delivery record.
Stock value and cost of goods based on real purchase costs, with a spreadsheet export ready for month-end.
Cost is tracked per location and carried with the stock when it moves.
Each shipment keeps its own cost in your currency, converted for its date.
Oldest cost first matches cost to how your stock really moves: oldest out first.
